Adam Jay Epstein & Andrew Jacobson
Adam Jay Epstein spent his childhood in Great Neck, New York, while Andrew Jacobson grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but the two met in a parking garage out in Los Angeles. They have been writing for film and television together ever since. THE FAMILIARS was their first, highly successful, outing in the world of middle grade fiction. The series is currently being developed into an animated feature by Sony, with Sam Raimi ("Spiderman") attached to produce. Epstein and Jacobson recently delivered the first volume in a new middle grade sci-fi/adventure series, STARBOUNDERS, forthcoming from HarperCollins Children's Books.
Awarded School Library Journal Best Book
School Library Journal (starred review): "This winning combination of action and humor will keep readers turning pages right up to the ending, which successfully concludes this adventure but leaves room for more."
Publishers Weekly: "Epstein and Jacobson's children's book debut is a grand adventure with entertaining characters and magic-induced fun.... Even adults will appreciate a tale in which street smarts mix with book learning, and resourcefulness and confidence are matched by loyalty and respect."
Michael Buckley, author of THE SISTERS GRIMM and NERDS: "THE FAMILIARS combines the magic of Harry Potter and the adventure of Warriors into a enchanting story readers will love. Whether furry, flippered, or feathered, you'll be taking a closer look at your family pet."
Roderick Gordon, author of TUNNELS: "A captivating story that puts a fresh spin on the classic fantasy tale by telling it from the animals' point of view. Prepare yourself for more twists and turns than you can shake a wand at, and cliff-hangers by the dozen!"
When human magic disappears suddenly from Vastia, it falls on the familiars--Aldwyn the telekinetic cat, Skylar the know-it-all blue jay, and Gilbert the gullible tree frog--to find the Crown of the Snow Leopard, an ancient relic that can reverse the curse. To do this they must follow the purple paw prints of Aldwyn's father, who'd gone missing years earlier while searching for the Crown. His magical spirit trail extends into the Beyond, where our heroes encounter strange new dangers, while Aldwyn learns about his mysterious past.
"I heartily recommend avoiding this book. Unless you are secretly part of an Intergalactic fleet of space-jumping alien-battling Starbounders, your own life will seem very boring in comparison. A great ride and a great read!" -Pseudonymous Bosch, author of the New York Times bestselling SECRET series
"Authors Adam and Andrew have given us an excellent, fast paced adventure that is, without a doubt, more exciting than any video game I've ever played!" - Marianne Krawcyzk, author of GOD OF WAR and SKYLANDERS
Peace has finally returned to Vastia. The familiars Aldwyn, Skylar, and Gilbert have defeated the evil Paksahara, and the Council is throwing Queen Loranella a birthday party to celebrate. But when the queen falls victim to a terrible curse, the familiars find themselves the prime suspects.
Narrowly escaping the palace dungeons, Aldwyn, Skylar, and Gilbert set out on a quest to prove their innocence and find a cure for the queen. Their journey will reunite them with old friends and even older enemies, and it will take them from the far fields of Vastia to the magical Dreamworld. But nothing can prepare them for the puzzles and perils that await them there.
With all the action, humor, and friendship that have made the familiars so well loved, plus a mystery that will take all their wits to unravel, PALACE OF DREAMS is the familiars' most thrilling adventure yet.
Zachary Night and the Starbounders are back, in the sci-fi adventure series Pseudonymous Bosch calls "a great ride and a great read," from Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson, authors of the Familiars series.
Zachary Night may have saved Earth, but back at Indigo 8, he's still just a Starbounder-in-training. And unlike his fellow trainees, who are having a blast gearing up for the annual Indigo Games, Zachary has more important things on his mind. He has yet to decipher the cryptic warning Professor Olari left him, and it looks like someone is trying to beat him to it.
When all the clues start pointing to a larger conspiracy, Zachary and his friends must once again leave Indigo 8 behind and take matters into their own hands. Their investigation will lead them through the far reaches of space, and it will test their friendship, too. And, oh yeah, did they mention the fate of the outerverse hangs in the balance?
With the "winning combination of action and humor" (SLJ, starred review) that earned THE FAMILIARS an Indie Next List Pick and eight state-award nominations, STARBOUNDERS: REBELLION catapults readers out of this world and onto a deep-space journey that's thrilling from beginning to end.
